Pastry blonde (you do not get these nearly as often as pastry stouts) intended to evoke tompouce pastry, created for the Hema supermarket chain by Lowlander. Many thanks for the can Sylvan! Snow white, dense and tiny-bubbled, cobweb-lacing, stable head over a cloudy peach blonde beer with ochre-ish tinge. Aroma of indeed tompouce or even ‘boterkoeken’, vanilla and crème anglaise, orange peel and zest, margarine, milk sugar, sweet yellow raspberries in a ‘processed’ (frozen) way, honey, Madeleine cookies, also a whiff of rusty old iron (probably oxidation already setting in). Sweet onset though less extremely so than expected based on the nose, some clean fruitiness of pineapple and peach to even apricot jam, paired with a citrusy note (mandarin); fizzy carb, creamy mouthfeel from the added lactose which in itself also continues the initial sweetness, over a cookie-like malt core. Orange peel citrusiness comes up in the finish, along with odd and rather out-of-place chalky and metallic accents; creamy, sweet finish not hindered by any hop bitterness, but by this time the citrusy effect has become stronger than the tompouce associations. More vanilla-forward, sweeter and less explicitly citrusy than the IPA version (yes, there is one, believe it or not) – my sample was a tad too old already to be fully enjoyed, but I get the idea here and creating a blonde tompouce beer can never have been an easy task. Strangely Lowlander, working at Proef, completed that task quite well, even if this kind of pastry beers are not my personal cup of tea. More pleasant than expected, in all.

2/VI/22 - 33cl can from Hema (Gent), shared @ afterwork drink, BB: 2/IX/22 13:23 T2 (2022-636)

Clear orange beer, creamy white head, stable, a bit adhesive. Aroma: vanilla, raspberry jam, sweet and sugary impression. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet, soft acidity, a little sugary, vanilla, some raspberry jam. Aftertaste: sweet sugary finish, very mediocre, don’t like it very much.

Slightly hazy warm pink golden colour, white head. Vanilla, raspberry, sweet raspberry syrup, malts. Malty flavour, rather sweet. Sweet finish, raspberry syrup. Rather decent, actually. It reminds me of tompouce, so it does what it needs to do.
From 33cL can in the garden. Thanks for the can, Tim!

Peachy colour with dense head. Aroma is jammy and perfumed. Flavour has sweet red jam. Yes, creamy, cakey, sweet. It delivers on the brief but not really my thing.

Thanx Irma. Clear orangey golden + white head. Beer ruined by sweet and sickly pastry aroma crap on top of everything. Wet biscuitty malts underneath. Vanilla makes it sickly & raspberry is too thin to give it a bite. Malty, sweet w/ sickly sideshow. Meh.

33 cl. can @ home, bought @ Hema Culemborg.
Dirty clear pink with a white head. Vanilla and raspberry aroma. Sweet lactose taste with a sweet finish. Not even that bad, actually.

Slightly pinkish amber, white head. Smells very beery, with some light raspberry. Nice mouthfeel, very light and pretty soft. Flavour isn't really tompouce, but a nice combination of sweet raspberry and soft vanilla. Maybe a tad watery.

Can shared. Hazy dull pink with pale pink head. Dry malts, vanilla, lactose, raspberry syrup, grassy hops. Like a mediocre lager with vanilla and raspberry candy. Medium sweet, under medium bitter. Light bodied. Not awful but more a gimmick than a nice beer.

Can at home, orange beer, small head, aroma is sweet, raspberry, or my mind is playing tricks or it smells like tompouce, vanilla, lactose. Taste is the same, sweet, raspberry, vanilla, creamy. Mindfuck but nice
