Can Pours brown with some brownish foam, normal amount of it. Nose is quite simple, light sweet caramel, malty and with a bit of roast. Not very hoppy in the taste, displaying more or less traditional brown ale flavours. Simple and sturdy, working-man brown ale. Not very special but well made.
Tap at CBM Osaka. Dark brown with orange tints. Nose is chocolate, caramel, some light smoke and citrus hops. Smooth, medium body, tasty.
12 oz can into a Lowenbrau (Munchen) stemmed tulip glass on 15th Jan 2018 in California while on holiday. Brown bodied, sediment evident, lacing on the off-white, but thin head. No fireworks here, no sparkle or pop, bang wallop and a distinct lack of flare. However the beer has a malty and semi-sweet nature and it's alcohol level suits it, no need for every beer to be high in it's ABV. Sadly this beer came after a couple of 'heavy hitters' in the tasting session, so I might be slightly unfair in my assessment in it's worth. Scored objectively.
Nitro at the brewery. Brown color with copper highlight and creamy eggshell head. Aroma is malty, berries, a touch of smoke. Taste is berries, smoky. Super-silky mouthfeel. Nice and balanced!
On tap at Bellevue Brewing. Pours a dark amber with medium beige head that lasts. The aroma is toasted malt and spice. Medium body, cocoa, bready malt, light spice finish, good.
Can from Boise Co-op. Was expecting more of s winter warmer, but this a straight up brown ale, nothing too exciting. Dark, clear brown, adequate foamy head. Pretty solid lacing. Mild roast grain aroma, mildly sweet. Taste features the roast graind, with some sugary sweetness towards the back. Long lingering bitterness finishes it.
Deep brown with ruby highlights and topped with a pillowy tan head. Slightly roasted malt, some chocolate, a smidgen of smoke, and light melted caramel in the aroma. Medium bodied. Flavor follows on the mostly muted notes that the aroma introduced us to. Some chocolate, roasted malts, caramel, with a stronger, hoppier finish than expected with light bitterness. Sweet malt regains its rightful place as the bitterness fades. Easy going and straightforward. Not a mind bender just an easy going brown.
Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilbur’s Foco a month or so back. Pours a burnt, Amber orange appearance with a light brown head. Nutty, herbal, earthy nose with some caramel and a hint of burnt chocolate. A bit sweet. A little doughy. Cracker, toasted malt. Some grass and grain. Ok.
Taster at brewery. Cloudy brown color. This is a smoked? Some charred brown caramel malts in aroma. Hoppiness (slightly green hops) comes out in flavor. Spicy rye at the end of the flavor. Dullsville.
