Classic ’versnijbier’ (blend of top-fermented ale with lambic, in this case) with a long history, once taken over from the eponymous brewery by De Neve and later by (then) Interbrew, then discontinued and now again made, but by Frank Boon. This rating concerns the old InBev version. Snow white, delicate foam, colour warm amber. Sweet malts paired with lambic acidity, in a restrained way, like in a sweetened ’capsulekensgeuze’ or a bottled faro; refreshing sweet and sour taste, lambic character subdued (very little funkiness or woodiness but still a citrussy and lactic acidity), bit sugary, but enjoyable and thirst-quenching nonetheless.

Better than the current version. Flat, no carbonation. Sweet, malty but also sour. Strange beer, some similarity with a faro.

Odd name. Amber color, white head. Aroma of faint orange and malt. Tastes of malt, dark cherry and yeast. Interesting.

Bottle. Clear medium amber color with a average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate yeasty, dough, meat, light to moderate malty, roasted. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration. Body is light to medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft. (230807)

Draught. Amber colour, mediumsized white head, lacing. Aroma is overriped apprles along with some dry dark fruits. Flavour is riped apples, malts and some fruity hops. Some slight cherry and cinnamon become present in the aftertaste.

Orange-amber beer, well-carbonated to just off-white head, very dense and leaving textbook lace. Sourish nose, and at the same time, smelling of artificial sweetener. Bretty, lactic acid, slight smell of unripe fruit. Caramel taste, alleviated by some organic acids. Again I get a pineapple flavour. Very little, if any sourishness in the taste; slight oxydation traceable retronasal. Faint artificial taste, even with a plastic component, which makes it cloying, dry and wry at the same time. Compared to the Van Roost original, or even its Brabrux heir, this is a bl**din’ InBev disgrace.

Amber colour, white quite homogeneous head. A little bit of small bubbles in the body. Malt and hop aromas. Sweet, little bit fruity sour flavour (lambik-like) in the beginning, little bit bitter in the end. I like this beer.
