Bottled in 2005. Brown color with floaties. malt, pineapple and porto in the aroma. Porto flavor with pineapple. Has thinned a bit over the years, but still ages well. Sweet and almost sugary.

At 't Apostelken, Aalst. Shared with Anke.
Pours hazy dark brown with a lasting, small, frothy, beige head; some lacing. Unmistakeable 'winter beer' aroma of caramel, licorice & aniseed, molasses, brown bread, candied dark fruits, yeast, dough, some pear syrup. It tastes medium to heavy caramel-like sweet with hints of dough & chocolate, and light spicy bitter, a bit yeasty. Sweetish, malty finish, just a bit dry & spicy. Medium, almost full, body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Rather stereotypical, just like its Tripel brother, but so nice.

33cl bottle: BBD 16 Jan 21. Drank outside ’Iceberg’ Middelkerke on a sunny afternoon, 16 May 17. We shared this alongside a bottle of his lighter brother, the 8% ABV ’Tripel’. Red hue to the dark brown body, on top a decent sized light brown topping. Liquorice, vanilla and raisins in both the nose and taste, some subdued spicey notes too. A very pleasant beer all round.

Christmas ale joining its older tripel brother some years ago. Yellowish beige head, dark brown colour; chocolatey aroma with raisins and pear as well as spicy notes of aniseed, cinnamon and coriander. Malty and very yeasty taste, bit doughy, soft bitter finish with the spiciness from the aroma returning. Lacks the finesse of many a great other Belgian massive ale, but still enjoyable.

30/V/13 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BB: 16/VI/13 - bottled: 16/VI/10 (2013-506)

Clear dark brown beer, creamy beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: molasses, brown sugar, chocolate, dried fruits, aniseed, bit spicy. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: molasses, aniseed, liquorish, browh sugar, some chocolate. Aftertaste: aniseed, caramel, brown sugar, little bitter, spicy. Aniseed is clearly present, easily detectable, yet not overwhelming or bothering me. Which is quite a surprise, cause I'm not a big fan of it. Lovely beer, though probably the age (almost 3 years) has lots to do with that.
