Bottle at hotel room tasting thanks to the kermis. Hazy dark amber with light beige head. Toffee, caramel, chestnuts, some Scotch, light alcohol, grassy herbs, raisins, dusty old floors, rye bread, light spicy whisky. Over medium sweet and medium bitter. Full bodied. Nice.
Bottle at hotelroom tasting NH Groningen. Unclear dark amber with creamy head. Sweet raisans, bourbon, tea. Sweet and bitter. Over medium body and soft carbonation.
Hazy amber brown with a cream colored head. Aroma of butterscotch, malt, oak, toffee, caramel and vanilla. Flavour is above moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Above medium bodied with soft carbonation.
Pours a deep amber/copper colour and a beige head with an orange hue and pretty good retention. Aroma's are sweet, caramel, wood, (red) fruit. Retronasal it sweetish, fruity, woody, bitterish. Flavour is moderate sweet and (above) moderate bitter. Alcohol is warming, feels quite strong. Medium bodied. Finishes quite bitter, chalky
Meesterlijk etiket. Zoet, beetje boozy, kersenschilletjes, hout en wat vanille.
Bottle. Dark amber color. Apricot, a hint of caramel and cinnamon in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor with licorice, cinnamon and caramel. Oak, shyish whisky flavor. Earthy hops. Not perfect, but fairly complex.
Classic and traditional style barleywine for sure: pretty sweet, caramelly. Barrel ageing gave it some wood and some (caramelly and sweet..) whisky. Needs something to make a splash, and some bitterness. Tasty but so very boring.
Bottle. Color: Clear copper, beige head. Aroma: Dark dried fruit, caramel, Auchentoshan Whiskey. Taste: Dark dried fruit, some caramel, licorice and clearly present, maybe even a bit overwhelming Auchentoshan Whiskey barrel ageing. Hints of nuts, almond, plum, grain, sugar and citrus fruit. Notes of wood. Dry-ish mouthfeel. Moderate to medium sweetness, moderate bitterness, going towards medium at finish. Medium to over medium body, below average carbonation. Pretty complex and pretty nice, although not one of my top favorites of barrel aged Barleywines.
