Aumakua Pueo, our second NEIPA in the Aumakua series. Aumakua are Hawaiian family gods, ancesters who return to earth as spiritual animals, plants and rocks. This NEIPA was brewed with Maris Otter, Wheatmalt, Wheatflakes, Oatmalt and Oatflakes. Hopped with Strata, El Dorado and Idaho 7. And also double dry hopped with these hops. Result is a very fruity and drinkable ipa, with some notes of watermelon, mango and pineapple. With a noticeable bitterness in the end. Drink cold! Small, bit whipped eggwhite-like white head over hazy orange-golden beer. Pineapple, citrusaroma's - lemon, orange, kumquat, grapefruit. Dry, fruity-citrussy. Chalk, asafoetide but also artichoke, bitter almonds, bit vegetable bitterness. Yet lots of maltsugars underneath. Very slick, almost oily, medium bodied (appears high for only 4.5%). Not half bad! Txs to Stef!

20/VII/22 - 33cl can @ Dylan & Amina’s wedding, BB: 28/VI/23 (2022-893) Thanks to Dylan & Amina for the great party and the beers!

Pretty clear blond yellow beer, small creamy off-white irregular head, little stable, a bit adhesive. Aroma: fruity, bit floral, dry, some tropical fruits, soapy notes. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet start, malty, a bit weird, funky, grains, gentle bitterness, rather oxidized, dry. Aftertaste: pretty sweet, soapy, a little bitter, floral, more oxidation going on, not great...

Pours a hazed, warm yellow. Medium sized, stable white head. Scent is fairly mild. Some malts shine trough (creamy, white bread) fairly mild hoparoma. All and all, not bad, but a too low on intensity. Also at only 4.5 ABV this is a DDH Pale Ale, more than an IPA to me, which would provide better expectations towards the aroma intensity as well. Taste is Surprisingly bitter (still, in style ) . Bit dank. Surprisingly intense on the aroma here. Orange, tropical fruits. Creamy body, ends perhaps just a tad to dry and sharp for the style. Expressive yellow fruityness as well, mild yeast ( again, in style). Not overly complex, but to provide this good of a beer at 4.5 % is always a good thing in my book !
