Bottle. I think this is slightly different from the first batch. Nice clear bottle as well. Lots of typical Nevel funk, but the earthy beets and absinthe really add a new dimension and also work very well together. Lovely.

Sour ale by Nevel containing beetroot and common (absinthe) wormwood, the same ingredients as in batch #3 apparently so I am assuming it is the same beer. From a colourless bottle shared by Craftmember, cheers! Some slow gushing initially but nothing too dramatic. Moussy, very pale lilac-tinged white head, initially thick but thinning and dissolving; misty vermillion red robe with salmon-pinkish tinge and lots of red-coloured, relatively large flakes of protein coloured by beetroot (or actual beetroot?) floating around everywhere – an unusual sight for a beer, in all. Aroma of indeed clear (glazed) beetroot including a subtle touch of its earthiness, carrot leaves, rosehip, dried tomato peel, pomegranate, grape skin, hints of young green tree leaves, rosé wine, blood orange and yoghurt. Tart onset but not harshly sour, slender and fruity with a sweetish beetroot flavour clear enough from the start, some ripe red plum and even blood orange accents, softish carbonation; yoghurty tartness from lactic bacteria continues round a lean, bit vinous body of pale maltiness, buried under that sweetish and slightly earthy beetroot, a rosé wine-like estery fruitiness and elements of rosehip and pomegranate – but hardly any wormwood. Only in the finish does a mild wormwood-tinged bitter element show up, but it remains completely subordinate to this colourful, remarkably fruity, yoghurty-tart beetroot and lactic acid combo, remaining refreshing and frivolous. Light-bodied and light-hearted but original, summery, refinedly elegant, almost ‘feminine’ flavoured sour ale, better than expected even – and in many ways a typical Nevel product.

Appearance: Hazy light red colour with a white head.
Aroma: Malt, fruit, tart, sour, yeast.
Body: Medium body, low to medium carbonation.
Flavour: Fruit, tart, sour, malt, funk.
