billie's craft beer fest 2022
Pours clear, pale blonde, no real head. Scent is clear lambic funk, peatyness is mild to hidden. Taste is sharp, funky lambic, mild peat, dry, medium tart - mostly funky, far more than I'm used to by OB. Very woody.
Whisky barrel aged lambic (very new and modern but not unique – both Lambiek Fabriek and Angerik have done similar experiments last year), by Oud Beersel this time, served at Billie’s Craft Beer Fest. No head at all apart from a few loose bubbles round the edge, misty warm golden robe with deeper apricot tinge. Aroma of strong wet old wood, green apple, bitter sow thistle and dandelion, mugwort even, touch of peat but not too overwhelming, green gooseberry, old bread crust, lemon peel. Tart onset, lemon flesh and unripe nectarine, a bit ‘puckering’ even, green apple and green pear, no carbonation; strong drying lactic sourness throughout, bit vinous mouthfeel but in any case dry, with bread-crusty core and very prominent tannic woodiness further adding to the dry effect. Light peaty whisky notes retronasally, but again quite subtly so – actually for me personally, it could have been more, especially on a festival with some many outspoken flavours shouting for attention. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to a geuze blended with this lambic – any new Oud Beersel bottling is something to look forward to, but with this lambic the result could become quite spectacular.
Sampled @ Billie's Craft Beer Fest 2022, Saturday Session. A clear golden beer. Aroma and Taste of sour apples, grapes, funky.
Classic Oud Beersel lambic, there’s a hint of whisky but not that much. Deep cellar funk and oak. Vanilla. Great.
12/XI/22 - on tap @ Billie’s Craft Beer Fest (day 2), BB: n/a (2022-1595) Thanks to all for sharing today’s beers!
Clear pale orange to blond beer, no head. Aroma: nice, clean lambic smell, lots of brett, funky, horse blanket, a bit woody, some pepper, no peated whisky though? MF: no carbon, medium body. Taste: nice acidity up front, a little bitter, metallic touch, dry, hoppy, spicy touch, again no peat? Aftertaste: clean acidity, lemon peel, bitter, quite some tannins, decent. But that peat seems to be completely gone?
