Pursuit of Hoppiness was brewed to showcase the brash beauty of American hops: Summit, Simcoe, Chinook and Nuggets at 100 International Bitterness Units (IBU). It was brewed with Idaho 2-Row malted barley and German specialty malts to provide a rich, slightly caramel flavor and bold reddish color. At 22 degrees Plato starting gravity and about 8% alcohol by volume, this is a perfect autumn beer, thick and warming, to be shared and savored on a crisp fall evening.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Liquor Mart in Boulder. I’m surprised I haven’t had this one before. Pours a hazy, deep reddish orange appearance with a tan head. The aroma is oxidized, some pine, bread, light toast, mild citrus. Mouth feel is a little goopy. Dull bitter, piney hops. Light citrus. Some grapefruit. Also a little stale. Note to self: beware of shelfies at Liquor Mart.

750 ml bottle courtesy of Marsiblursi. Pours hazy dark ruby red with a rather small creamy yellowish beige head that leaves some thick lacing on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet, malty and hoppy with caramel, pine, orange zest, lemon zest, toffee, resinous wood, alcohol, vanilla and hints of strawberry jam, hay and wild strawberries. Taste is sweet, bitter and malty with caramel, dark bread, wild strawberries, pine, orange peal, freshly cut grass, wood and hints of grapes and alcohol. Mouthfeel is smooth, tiny oily bitter and medium bodied. Finish is slightly sweet and bitter with bread, pine, orange peal, grass and hints of burnt caramel.
