Tobacco. Complex
0.33 l bottle from 'Mitra' (Roermond), bottled in November 2017. Clear, ruby with a medium large, frothy, stable, off-white head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty aroma of coffee, hazelnut, milk chocolate and some vanilla. Very sweet, malty, a bit roasty taste of hazelnut, milk chocolate, lots of coffee and vanilla, followed by a medium long, rather bitter, slightly roasty finish. Medium to full body, slightly creamy and gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Pretty intense and saturating but also very pleasant, very heavy on the coffee which suits the beer well. Same concept as a White Stout apart from the colour. Good!
Röstig würziger, stark malziger Beginn. Schokolade, steigende Süße, etwas herb, süffig. Spritzig, langer Nachhall, wenig Alkohol. Gut. 10/9/9/10//9
Sample at ZBF 2018, thanks Belgian RB table.
Hazy red colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have a tonne of heavily roasted coffee. There is a sweet element perhaps from the beetroot although I don't notice the specific flavour of the beetroot.
Tap. Hazy reddish color with white head. Aroma is roast, coffee, green bell peppers. Taste is the same, very fresh. Silky mouthfeel with medium carbonation. This is really confusing, but also really good.
Bottle from De Bierkoning @ home. Deep amber red-brownish color. Off white head with a 1 bubble layer retention. Aroma's: ash is dominating, or actually covering everything else up (must be the coffee). Retronasal it's caramel, butter, ash, ground coffee, bitter. Flavor is bittersweet. Fairly strong alcohol feel. Above medium bodied. Long moderate bitter finish. Actually pretty good.
Draft. Murky red brown color tan head. Aroma of fruity cocoa. Taste is very earthy cocoa and dried fruit. Tasty.
Pours clear, very dark copper red. Medium, creamy white head. Smell is coffee. Taste is sharp, roasty, coffee, bit bitter. Big burn notes from the coffee, that also provide a green bean aspect to the beer. Medium to medium thick body, medium high carbo. Bit sharp. Too espresso forward to me
Bottle from Geers. Beautiful dark red/orange colour, lots of creamy foam, stays long. Aroma: very sweet nose: caramel, vanilla, sweet chocolate. Taste is roasty, green coffee, very sweet vanilla, earthy harsh bitter finish.. Too much vanilla which I don't really like in beer along with the earthiness, not a very nice combo.
