Getting better at stouts in Belgium but still a fair way to go.
Rook en koffie. Hopelijk verander ik niet in een lintworm.
Draft @ Dok Brewing Company, Ghent. Dark brown/black beer. Very fruity nose, berries, along with leather, ashes, smoke, roasted malts. Nice beer.
Sampled at zythod 2018. Thnx for sharing, everyone ! Pours black, no real head. Smell is smoked. Like smoked salmon, more than smoked meat. Taste is sharp, full. Smokey. Roasted malts. In balance. Pretty damn good for those who like smoked beer, even I can tell.
Süffiger, süß-malziger Beginn. Kakao, etwas Espresso, die Süße bleibt konstant. Süffig, mittellanger Nachhall. Okay! 10/8/9/8//9
Sample at ZBF 2018, thanks Belgian RB table.
Tap. Black color with beige head. Aroma is liquorice, anis, chocolate. Taste is liquorice, anis, herbal. Oily mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Nice!
New smoked stout by Totem, thanks Klaas! Thick and creamy, tightly lacing, stable, pale yellowish beige head over a jet black beer. Aroma of wet leather, smoked wood, charcoal, bacon, cigar ashes, tea, bitter chocolate, black coffee beans, dried fig, walnut, whisky. Restrainedly sweet onset, old dry raisins and candied figs, medium carb, thick and full mouthfeel. Toasted walnut-, burnt toast- and unsugared black chocolate-like malt body quickly acquiring a strong smokiness combined with an ashy roasted bitterness, nicely dry, spicy and powdery, followed by a long, increasingly heating but non-astringent, whisky-ish alcohol effect. Bold, layered, uncompromising stout packed with flavour, smoky and toasty with both factors working well together, the umpteenth impressive Totem beer… Would love to revisit, hopefully this is or will be sold to Kantien or other places in Ghent I tend to frequent.
Black with dark head. Aroma and flavour do have some elements of smoked ham. The aftertaste has chocolate and bitter roasted malts. Also the warmth of alcohol
