Maallust was founded in 2011. It was initiated by a group of 25 entrepeneurs who call themselves the ‘Zware Jongens’ (Heavy Guys). They not only started brewing in Veenhuizen, they also revived the dilapidated Maallust complex. After a thorough renovation, the brewery opened its doors. Today, the Maallust complex looks marvelous, and its beer is available all throughout the Netherlands. Maallust is the perfect addition to a village with a unique history.

Bottle at home shared with Laura. Hazy dusty darker orange color, white head. Aroma is hayish, straw, don't get more. Flavor is lightly malts, soft and distantly sweetish, slightly herbal, a bit grainy. Hmm not a big fan of this one. Quite 'heavy' where I expected light and refreshing.

Bottle at home, reddish brown beer, small head. Aroma is malt, sweer, raisins, caramel, fruit. Taste is the same, sweet, caramel, hops, raisins, bitter, sweet. Nice

Bottled (from De Biertonne). Hazy orangeish golden colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is grainy, floral, some herbal and earthy tones. Flavour is grainy, herbal, mild fruits and toffee.

Panda courtesy of the SHIG himself! Murky orange-golden body, off-white head. Grainy, malty aroma, light red apple and stone fruit esters, spice touches, light cloves. Lean, dry, bitter taste, nutty touches,caramel, herbal bitter notes, alcohol, citric notes showing up, orange peel, warming... not particularly tripelish at first, it kinda grows into one. Not unpleasant, but not the best tripel around. Also, a Drenthe tick, so yaaay!

30cl Fles, gekocht bij de brouwerij. Half jaartje over datum. Mistig goudgele kleur, witte kraag. Typisch tripel, rode appels, appelmoes, licht kruidig, wat banaan, licht bloemig, citrusschil, degelijk bitter, theeblaadjes. Medium body. Prima tripel, verwacht alleen geen hopfeest.

30cl Fles van Maallust. Donker amber kleur, vuilwitte kraag. Ruikt vol, zoet, krenten, rozijnen, bruine suiker, moutig, vanille, smaak is wat minder vol, rozijnen, marmalade, moutig, donker fruit, bittere finish. Medium body. Het bier had wat voller gemogen maar is verder prima.
