Clear deep amber beer with a tan lacing. Aroma of raisins, dried fruits, wood. Taste of raisins, dark malt, dried fruits, boozy finish.
Keine Karbonisierung. Stark holziger Beginn, abgeschwächte Süße, deutlicher Alkohol. Weich bitter, langer Abgang, eher unsüffig. OK. 9/8/7/7/9/7
Bottled. Deep brown colour with a small beigeish brown head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, some yeasty and mild toffee tones. Flavour is chocolate, coffee, some yeasty and mild alcohol tones to it as well. Roasted somewhat dry finish.
Bottled. Ambery brown colour, mediumsized beigeish brown head. Aroma is wooden, floral, some earthy, herbal and nutty tones. Flavour is sweet malts, toffee, some floral and mild wooden and spicy tones. Dried fruits in finish.
Bottled (from De Bietonne). Brown colour with a mediumsized white foamy head, which leaves some lace. Aroma is caramel, some toasted and mild ashy notes with a wee bit of burnt wood. Flavour is floral, some toasted and mild ashy elements with quite strong sweet dried fruity elements in the finish.
--Sample, thanks fonefan! -- Very dark brown, small head. Intense calvados aroma. Mildly sweet with medium to full body and rounded mouthfeel. Calvados, pine, licorice and coffee. Long bitter finish.
Sample (thanks fonefan!). Black colour, small beigeish brown head. Aroma is chocolate, some mild sweet malts, alcohol and mild liquorice tones. Flavour is alcohol, some chocolate, mild toffee and sweet malts. A bunch of dark fruits and berries in the aftertaste.
Label seems to have 06/22 as bb date, however I don't think I've had it for so long. Anyway, pours a dark brown colour and a small off white head with little retention. Aroma's of red fruit, raisins, slightly oxidized (so maybe it was older than I thought), treacle. Retronasal it's sweetish, light boozy, treacle, fruity. Flavour is sweet with a hint of bitter. Alcohol is noticeable, but not sharp. Medium bodied. Flavour lingers.
Bottle shared with Laura @ home. Dark red-brown to brown color, small to average sized off-white head. Aroma is malts, dark malts, fruity notes which I guess is "bosbes". Flavor is malts, boozy a bit, dark malts and again something fruity so "bosbes" again I presume. A bit odd and I don't think I really like the combination tbh.
Been a while since I had Berghoeve, and a shorter while since my last no nonsensical Heaven Hill barleywine. Unsurprisingly quite solid and tasty. Malty, caramel, raisins, and a well balanced layer of soft and sweet bourbon.
