Hanssens Artisanaal is the oldest independent geuze blender in the whole world. At Hanssens, no beer is actually brewed! Instead, they pursue a profession that was very important in the history of lambic style beers, they are solely blenders of beer.

Hanssens takes this a step further, and actually blends batches from different breweries in their area. This used to be a very common practice, but Hanssens is now the oldest remaining blender. They bring to this endeavor a variety of barrels, some up to one hundred years old, and a passion and a love for the tradition of Geuze and Lambics.

Hazy blond with no head. Aroma is like a lambiek with a little strawberry. Flavour is similar but much more intense. Strawberry sour candy. Lingering tart finish.

Hazy red colour with no head. This is more floral and sharp than the Schaarbeekse version. More natural though. Acidic burn in the finish.

Clear dark red colour with no head. Aroma has a lot of cherry but the flavour quickly switches to raspberry which is a good thing. Fresh and tangy fruity finish.

Cloudy blond appearance with no head or carbonation. Aroma and flavour are very floral and much more complex than other lambiek. Good balance of sweet, sour and old barnyard funk.

Damn backlog, could've been first! :p
Very cloudy deep ruby purple to bordeaux beer, small creamy white head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: super fruity, lots of red berries, strawberry flavoured candy, some rotten fruits, overripe banana, bit chemical, sweetish impression. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: very fruity start, lots of sour cherries, some strawberry, super acidic, vinegar notes. Aftertaste: very fruity, acid burning the throat, little bitter, some almonds.

22 February 2019. Bierproeverij CVO Gent, thanks Tim, cheers to Ghent beer posse & the lovely Anke. Bottled: 4/2016. Pours clear pale golden with a small, frothy, off-white head; little lacing. Aroma of green apple, leather, vinegar, lactic acid, wood, cellar, dust, cheese. Taste is heavy to medium funky sour, quite leathery, lactic acid & vinegar, toned down by (sweetish) green apple; light woody bitter then, faint tannins, yeast & sourdough, a bit metallic & cheesy, still very much lemony sour too. Very dry, mouth-puckering finish, woody tannins, cellar, apple & lactic acid. Medium body, slick texture, lively carbonation. Very good, just a tad too much lemon & green apple for my liking.
