Coffee stout brewed with rye and aged in bourbon barrels, by this – understandably – hugely popular American craft brewery. Bomber from Beerdome shared with Craftmember and Goedele. Mocha-beige, thinnish, open and dissolving head on a pitch black robe. Complex nose of chocolate liqueur, Belgian chocolates, almond, bourbon, prominent vanilla-scenting oak wood, amaretto, hazelnut purée, golden raisins, walnut oil, black peppercorns, touch liquorice. Densely sweet, clean and focused onset, candied fig, yellow raisin and candied pear with a touch of blackberry coulis – not quite as sugary as other big stouts I had from this brewery, though still outspokenly sweet; softish carb, very full and oily, near to syrupy mouthfeel, layers of hazelnut, coffee cream, milk chocolate, toffee and eventually cappuccino filling the mouth, with the rye adding a background grey-brown bread spiciness and syrupiness. The bourbon comes up strong after that, along with a wealth of vanilla-like oak wood; the alcohol becomes a bit peppery and hot in the end, but lovely caramelly and vanillin-like bourbon flavours linger afterwards – pairing well with the dark, sweet, chocolatey malt core. Perhaps just a tad too sticky and boozy for me personally, but definitely complex and tasty (though for such a hefty price, I guess I was expecting something even bigger, maybe…).

Bottle. Black. Massive bourbon, cinnamon, vanilla, booze, deep sugary notes, caramel, toffee, marshmallow, soft berries. Quite sweet, medium bitter. Full bodied. I like it.

Very thick and opaque, more like a smoothie or pastry sour than a Berliner. Aromas are mostly mango with a little coconut and marshmallow. Flavors are like nose, add in some floral and spice. More sweet than tart. Pretty good though really.

Aromas are tart natural blueberry. Flavors are similar to nose, fairly tart and dry. Maybe the slightest hint of sweet in back. A little too tart for me.

Pours with a thick, slow to settle, pinkish tan head on top of a brownish opaque dirty dishwater liquid. Aromas are mainly peach with some berry, graham cracker, and vanilla. Flavors are similar to nose, starts out sweet tart going to sweet. Full thick body and okay carbonation. Not bad but not really my thing.

Bottle at tasting. Red brown color, dark red colored glare coming through when held into the light. Average sized off-white to beige head. Aroma and flavor are malts, light peanut butter notes, sweetish, milk chocolate, vanilla, a bit boozy in the back of the throat. Not bad, not great either.

Panda courtesy of Theydon_Bois, cheers Colin! Black brown colour, afew bubbles on top and aroma of roast malt, chocolate, coffee, macadamia, bourbon, vanilla, wood barrel. Taste is sweet, dark malt, chocolate, coffee, booze, with barrel notes, vanilla, and some roasty nutty bitterness. Full bodied, low carbonation, boozy roast bitter finish. Very drinkable.
