In late 2013, J.C. Hill got a call from his father, John, asking if he’d like to open a brewery restaurant in Monterey. The opportunity to collaborate on a project with his father and move home to Northern California to start a family with his wife, Melanie, could not be ignored and thus he moved. Located in a historically registered building in Old Monterey, this is our original location that opened in 2014. The Alvarado Street Brewery & Grill serves locally sourced, gastropub-influenced fare built around it's beers that are produced on-site.

In April of 2016 our Salinas Production Brewery & taproom opened to supplement house offerings at our downtown Monterey pub, and allow us to supply draft beer to quality minded local establishments.

Clear blond yellow beer, small creamy yellowish head, stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: lovely, juicy, tropical fruits, mango, papaya, cheesy touch, a bit dank. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very bitter start, tropical fruits, dank hops, grassy, mango, more hops, nice! Aftertaste: fruity, bitter, a bit resinous, some citrus notes, good but not great.

Pours black, medium small, darkly tanned head. Scent is fairly intense, thick roast, coffee, peanut doesnt overpower and gives it a very natural, earthy nutty kinda vibe. Dark chocolate. Not as pastry forward as expected. Smooth vanilla doesn't pop out, but binds the beer's aroma's very well indeed. Taste is full, intense roast (some bitternes by that as well) , coffee, pure chocolate. Mild whiff of vanilla (again, works as a katalyst ) peanuts are fairly background but provide the complexity the beer needs to stand out - which it does. Great, very thick but not gimmicky thick, lower but not absent carbo. This is how you brew a balanced extreme beer. Can we make an example out of a beer like this ? Dangerously drinkable, though the alcohol isn't hiden, perhaps even a touch boozy for 'only' 11%. Lovely !
